GMC Ref No: 6055399 – Specialist Register Since 2016
Dr Arumugakani splits his time between London and Leeds, where he is a Consultant in Allergy and Immunology at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. We are pleased to be his southern base, allowing our patients to access exceptional skills.
Following core medical training in the UK, in 2006 Dr Arumugakani began specialist training in allergy and immunology. A field of medicine to which he would devote his life and bring fresh knowledge through research.
His PhD focused on the role of B-cells in immune mediated conditions, particularly allergic disorders. Later research includes the initial trials of Omalizumab for urticaria, with Dr Arumugakani helping to pioneer home therapy for urticaria.
He remains involved in clinical trials on newer biological treatments for urticaria, although his research portfolio is far wider. A number of papers have added to medical understanding and been cited many times.
Dr Arumugakani’s contribution to his profession is also valuable. He is a reviewer for the Journal of Investigative Dermatology and a senior member of the British Society of Allergy & Clinical Immunology.
The time he spends teaching medical students is welcomed, along with his work in clinical governance and offering expert advice. The support this brings to other clinicians helps to ensure their patients are treated as he would treat his own.
In addition to conditions patients present with, Dr Arumugakani believes in taking an holistic approach. Recognising that each patient is unique and understanding their wider health will bring sound treatment.
Dr Arumugakani is a leading allergy specialist, covering conditions originating from food, drugs, inhalants, venom, or other causes. A critical resource for our patients, alongside his skills in urticaria and immune related skin conditions.
