Dr Stevens explains the rapid rise in skin cancer cases and the steps people of all ages can take to stay safe.
GMC Ref No: 3198344 – Specialist Register Since 1999
Dr Stevens is a respected consultant dermatologist and surgeon. His special interest in skin cancer is valuable to our patients, along with his work on non invasive screening and diagnosis, from mole mapping to advanced microscopy.
After studying medicine at Jesus College Oxford, Dr Stevens trained as a consultant at the Royal Free and Royal London Hospitals. He was awarded a Wellcome Research Fellowship, to research genetic skin disease of the hair, nails, palms and soles.
This study yielded significant value, including the first known gene to cause hereditary deafness. After his research, Dr Stevens was appointed as a consultant at Barnet and Chase Farm NHS Trust, helping to build one of the UK’s largest skin cancer centres.
Whilst continuing to lead the team there, he made our clinic an exceptional facility for skin cancer treatment and dermatology. His belief in mindful treatment for adults and children perhaps reflected in recognition as a Mohs surgeon.
Mohs is a technique designed to offer maximum effect, with minimum intervention and a reduction in the amount of tissue removed. An approach all our consultant dermatologists support across a range of medical disciplines.
The skills Dr Stevens brings to our clinics are rare in the sector, although another factor is important. The treatment he offers is led by his ability to communicate with and empathise with patients, the best route to a positive outcome.
